Shofar Blowing at the Hospital on Rosh Hashanah

On the second day of Rosh Hashanah, September 24, 2025, Rabbi Baruch Goodman walked over the hospital to blow the Shofar for patients there. While on his way to the maternity ward to visit a family who had just welcomed a new baby, he stopped by the nurse’s station on that floor to make sure he could go in.

The nurse at the station said Shana Tova to him. He quickly learned that she was Jewish, but not practicing the mitzvot of Rosh Hashanah. When he invited her to join him for Shofar blowing in the patient’s room, she found coverage so she could come along.

Once the Rabbi got permission from the family, he brought the nurse in and blew the Shofar for everyone. The new mother started to talk to the nurse and made her feel welcome. A small encounter turned into a deeply meaningful moment, as the new mother’s kindness left a positive impression on the young nurse and reminded her of her Jewish roots.
