During April 28’s Disney themed JCafé gathering at Chabad House, students met and engaged with members of the NJ Jewish State Troopers Association, creating an evening of meaningful connection and inspiration.
Embracing the Disney theme, the program highlighted the idea of larger than life characters who bring joy and inspiration to our lives, drawing a parallel to the Troopers, whose dedication and service help ensure the safety and freedom that allow communities to thrive.
JCafé Student Director Sammi Byck opened by connecting this week’s Torah portion to the role of the visiting officers, noting that those in visible roles are “held to an even higher standard, carrying the responsibility of representing something greater wherever they go,” a message she said reflects the Troopers’ example of public service and Jewish identity. Rabbi Baruch Goodman, Campus Director of Chabad House, emphasized that “our actions are not just personal, but a reflection of our families, our community, and our values,” describing the Troopers as individuals who “wear two kinds of badges, the metal one of a state trooper and the soft one, the badge of Jewish pride and compassion.” The evening highlighted that integrity, responsibility, and living as a mensch are daily commitments, leaving students inspired to live with greater purpose and pride.
