The Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations, Honorable Danny Danon was Guest Speaker for a Luncheon Meal with more than twenty five Chabad supporters, community leaders, and student leaders from Rutgers University. This meeting, sponsored by Chabad House at Rutgers University, took place Tuesday, May 23 at the glatt kosher Prime Grill in the Sony Building, New York.
After a sumptuous lunch, the Ambassador spent 45 minutes regaling the crowd with personal stories, anecdotes, and a report of recent positive changes taking place at the United Nations. Danny Danon related that he felt a "wind of change", since the introduction of US Ambassador Nikki Haley. The two will be visiting Israel in the near future. In addition, Ambassador Danon has begun inviting representatives from Muslim and Arab countries to informally meet. The Ambassador spoke of how several Representatives from previously hostile countries, have actually changed their votes in certain UN resolutions.
The Ambassador was most positively received by the crowd, and spent additional time answering questions in a candid manner.
Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, founding rabbi and executive director of Chabad House, presented the Ambassador with a leather bound "Pirkei Avot", Ethics of our Fathers. The Ambassador concluded his remarks, with a request that the American Jewish community, take the initiative in reaching out to other UN ambassadors, to share the teachings and values of Judaism on a global scale. He said "although I am not yet a Chabad Shliach, I learn a lot from them and from the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe!"
All assembled took personal photos with the Ambassador.
