A delegation of Rabbis, including Chabad Shliach Rabbi Levi Stone from Westport Conn. (Chaplain Conn. Police Dept.'s), Rabbi Mendy Carlebach from Chabad of Central NJ (Chaplain NJ Police Dept.'s) and Rabbi Sholom Lipschitz (Chaplain NYC Agencies) attended a Chaplains Conference in Washington DC.
Prior to and following the conference the Rabbis met with a number of Senators and Congressman on Capitol Hill, including Senator Frank Lautenberg, Senator Robert Menendez and Congressman Rush Holt. Senator Frank Lautenberg met with the delegation & discussed a range of issues pertaining to the Jewish Community and Israel and then put on Tefillin for the first time in many years. The Rabbis blessed the 86 year old Senator to overcome his illness and remain strong and healthy.
The Rabbis also met Mr. Stephen Joel Trachtenberg - President Emeritus of George Washington University, after a lengthy discussion he too donned Tefillin with the Rabbis in front of his office.
In addition, a meeting was held in attorney Nat Lewin's office to discuss the Rubashkin case and efforts to help the cause.
The Rabbis were part of over 50 Chaplains training for "Emotional Support Behind the Yellow Tape", along with the Senior Chaplains of the United States Armed Forces, FBI and CIA.
