FOR STUDENTS ONLY. With thousands of students stranded with no electricity and no food, Chabad at Rutgers University is up and running, preparing for its big Friday Night Shabbat Dinner Experience this weekend, despite the fact that most of the campus is in darkness. Advertising with the slogan, "No need to sit in the dark any longer! Come to Chabad's Sandy Aftermath Free Friday Night Dinner and party with us!", Chabad will be serving homebaked challah breads with Israeli salads and spreads, hot chicken soup, and a great hot chicken and vegetarian dinner. "We're doing the best we can," commented Rabbi Baruch Goodman, Campus Director of Chabad House. "Our weekly student challah bakers together with my wife Sarah and our Chabad Chef Chesky Adler are already baking and cooking up a storm, well maybe not a storm, but let's call it a campus-wide pitch-in Shabbat dinner, with Chabad's student leaders leading the way. We're even going to try and put together some fudge desserts!"
Rabbi Shaya Shagalow, Chabad's Education Director reminds everyone that "Shabbat candle Lighting will take place at 5:35pm, with a mincha minyan at 5:40pm, followed by a lively, introductory Kabbalat Shabbat -- Welcoming in the Shabbat services at 6:00pm. Kiddush and the Grand Shabbat meal will begin at 6:45pm, with student speeches and d'var Torahs, and is free of charge for all university students." Saturday morning services and a free lunch will also be provided.
