When Israeli PM Netanyahu landed in NY on Tuesday night at JFK airport, Rabbi Mendy Carlebach - Shliach in NJ and Chaplain of the Port Authority was on hand to greet the PM on the tarmac.
One of the senior staff members of PM Netanyahu greeted Rabbi Carlebach and Gut Yom Tov greetings were exchanged reminding the senior staffer that his lulav was left on the airplane. The PM motorcade had to leave so Rabbi Carlebach assured the PM staffer to go on and would take care of it.
After locating the lulav on board the PM airplane, Rabbi Carlebach drove to Manhattan and delivered the lulav to the senior staff member of the PM Office at the hotel of the Prime Minister.
Upon landing, PM Netanyahu asked Rabbi Carlebach to daven for good weather. Today (Thursday) following PM Netanyahu's speech at the UN a private reception was held behind the main podium of the UN. When the PM met with Rabbi Carlebach he remarked that the "prayers must have worked", as the rain held up till well after his speech.
Rabbi Carlebach presented the PM with a Tehillim printed by Chabad House and a challenge coin from the Port Authority.
PM Netanyahu is scheduled to return to Israel on Motzei Shabbos.
