Shabbos for 1000
The Rutgers University Chabad House, the largest in the nation, is once again sponsoring its signature event, Shabbos for 1000, now in its fourth year. This premier Jewish experience will bring 1,000 college students together for an unforgettable Shabbat celebration, strengthening Jewish identity, unity, and connection to the Land of Israel.

At this critical time, with hostages still being held captive in Gaza, it is more important than ever for the Jewish community to stand together in solidarity. Shabbos for 1000 is not just a celebration—it is a powerful expression of Jewish unity on campus. "That’s why we are calling on every Jewish student to stand up for Israel, for our people, and for the hostages, by attending and being counted as a proud supporter of Israel in her time of need," stated Chabad Student President Eva Lebowitz.

The event, taking place Friday, Feb. 28 – Saturday, March 1, 2025, will feature candle lighting, lively services, a festive Shabbat meal, inspiring speakers, and a special Havdalah performance by world-renowned Simcha Leiter.

Vice-President Yair Hershkowitz emphasized the event’s significance: “At a time when Israel needs the Jewish people to stand strong and united, ‘Shabbos for 1000’ is more than just a campus gathering—it’s a powerful message of Jewish pride and support for our homeland.”

Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, Executive Director of Chabad House-Lubavitch, also noted, “The vision of our supporters has truly come to life with this program. ‘Shabbos for 1000’ is a testament to the power of Jewish unity and a living tribute to the memory of longtime benefactor and Chabad House Master Builder, Danny Kahane, obm.”  Rabbi Baruch Goodman, Campus  Director of Chabad House, added, “Shabbat has kept the Jewish people together for generations. To share its warmth with over 1,000 students is truly groundbreaking.”

All college-age students are invited, regardless of background or affiliation.
