Chabad House Visited by Security Experts
The Chabad House at Rutgers University, the largest Jewish facility on any public university in the world, is scheduled to open its new 55,000 sq ft addition before Sept. 2012.  Recently, it was visited by members of law enforcement.  This meeting was organized by Major Jerry Lewis of the New Jersey State Police, and included members of the F.B.I,  New Jersey Homeland Security, New Jersey State Police, Middlesex County Sheriff's Department, Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office, New Brunswick Police Department, Rutgers University Police Department.

The meeting detailed all the immediate and future plans of the Chabad House, and included a  security review of the building dormitories for 72 male students and separate facilities for 36 female students.  Following a lavish kosher lunch in Chabad's Dining Hall, the group heard a detailed explanation of the activities that Chabad House sponsors for campus students. Then, a tour was given of the current 35,000 sq ft facility containing the women's dorms, Kosher Kitchens, Synagogue, classrooms, and offices.  The new facility, scheduled to open before September 2012 was also toured.  This new construction will feature a new 72 bed men's dorm, new lounges, exercise gyms, kitchenettes, and bedroom suites.   Its first and main floor will contain a new Kosher Dining Hall to accommodate 770 students, an international coffee house, a new Sephardi Synagogue, and new Kosher Kitchens.   The guests expressed their amazement at the size and scope of the building project, and agreed to the creation of a "security advisory committee" to discuss future security issues with the leaders of Chabad House.

Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, founder and executive director of Chabad House, publicly thanked all the agencies, and offered the cooperation of all the Chabad rabbis and the larger Jewish community to the law enforcement establishment.
